Sustainable architecture in the sand

I came across a video on Ted.com today that deals with using bacteria to create architecture in the sand. Quite literally, the sand is transformed into sandstone that is both a rigid and inhabitable structure; it combats desertification processes as well.



The fact that such ingenious ideas are out there, and possible today, gives me hope that we might be able to create a more sustainable way of living sometime soon. This is one of the most heartening things I have seen in a while. We really are capable of doing better...
